'The Austro-Hungarian Occupation of the Sandjak of Novi Bazar 1879 to 1908' by Al Kugel.
Following the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878, the European Great Powers decided at the Congress of Berlin that Austria-Hungary should occupy the Sandjak (Turkish district) of Novi Bazar, a small territory to the southeast of Bosnia-Hercegovina between Serbia and Montenegro.
Three fieldpost offices were opened for the use of the Austrian forces, with letters and postcards from the troops being free of postage for the entire period of the occupation, which lasted until 1908.
This exhibit was created by, and is the property of the late Al Kugel, and is being supplied by his heirs as a courtesy to the Military Postal History Society.
