6 US. Civil War. Small cover postmarked Mar 18 (docketing on reverse states 1862) to Camp Butler, Newport News VA, to member of Mass. 29th Reg., Company C. Clean cover, carefully opened along right edge. US stamp No. 65. No letter. $15
7 US. Spanish American War. Pair of covers with enclosed letters, incoming to Camp Mead using “Middletown Mil. Sta. Penn.” Postmarks from Nov 1898. One features “I” in the barred oval obliterator, while the other features “2” in the barred oval. Backs of envelopes are clean, while fronts are lightly stained. $15
8 US. 1897. Camp Crook, South Dakota. Good postmark on cover. Town built in 1876 and used by General Crook as he tried to evict miners from the Black Hills. Now submerged. $10
9 US. Postmark of short-lived “Tacoma, Wash. Military Stn.” Sept 10, 1906. This operated for 3 months. Rarely seem example of such National Guard exercises. Used on postcard sent to California. $15
10 US. 1908. Fort Casey, Washington. Fine postmark on cover. This fort was built on Whidbey Island between 1897 and 1903 for the protection of Puget Sound. $10

Postmark also includes the designation “217” under the year date – this must refer to the Whipple’s designation, DD-217. This was a “barometer comparison card,” completed by the Chief Quartermaster. Very rarely seen card. $35

56 Germany – US. US POW tax percue airmail & delayed. Nov 21, 1944. Kriegsgefangenenpost printed POW card by airmail to San Antonio & forwarded to Chester, TX from Lt. E. Seamans in Stalag Luft 3 cancelled blacked out cds for 10.01.45 & with violet framed GEPRUFT 69, red framed Taxe Percue/Rm Pf with pencil 40 inserted, framed Mit Luftpost/Par Avion & black unframed 11153 /US Censor handstamps. The card written 21 Nov '44 did not enter the mails until 10 Jan '45, a delay of 50 days. Allied troops had entered Germany on 11 Sep '44 and the Siegfried Line was broken 21 Oct. With allied troops pushing forward at a rapid rate, German forces were on the defensive and in turmoil perhaps contributing to the delay. $12

Well-written letter enclosed, with reference to playing “beano” with British soldiers. Sender appears to be with 343rd Bomb Squadron. Some tears along upper edge of cover. $10

Note that we now have a very favorable commission structure for those consignors willing to do some work: if you submit lots that you have described, have a minimum bid associated with each lot, and the total of the minimum bids is at least $100, then the MPHS commission is only 5% of the sale price for each lot, rather than the normal 15%.
