Jeff Shapiro

Jeff Shapiro passed away in his sleep on August 3 in Fayville, Massachusetts after a yearlong illness. His wife, Sue, was at his side. A knowledgeable philatelist and an accomplished exhibitor, he served philately. He was a fellow director of the Military Postal History Society, a member of the Board of Vice Presidents of the American Philatelic Society, Chairman of the Prexie Era Committee of the United States Stamp Society, an accredited APS judge, and a stalwart member of the Puget Sound Collectors Club out west. For years Jeff was a leader in the New England Federation of Stamp Clubs and instrumental in success of the Boxborough Stamp Show.

Jeff put together award winning exhibits of German Inflation, Presidential Series postal history, and many others. Near the end he was at work on his “30 frame” exhibit of the Win the War stamp. Besides his broad and deep knowledge of postal history and a great eye for finding diamonds in the rough he had an endearing and self-deprecating sense of humor. Many of us have lost a dear friend and mentor.
