RAF Ferry Command, Dorval, WWII (presentation)

by Robert Toombs

cover

This presentation covers a fascinating little known story of the RAF Ferry Command in WWII. The author, Robert (Bob) Toombs, is a long-time MPHS member and National Gold Medal exhibitor.

In 1940 American WWI RAF pilot Clayton Knight recruited the initial nucleus of 44 bush pilots for the start-up of RAF Ferry Command Dorval. From early 1941, the US shuttled aircraW (built to British specs) from American factories to Dorval. A joint USATC-Ferry Command committee comprised of 3 Americans and 3 British coordinated task-sharing of aircrew, meteorology, air traffic control, mails and more.

This presentation is the creation and property of the author, but is presented for the free use of members of the Military Postal History Society and the public for educational purposes.
