Hollywood Fan Mail During Wartime (Presentation)

by Regis Hoffman and Thomas Richards

cover

This presentation was first given at the Rocky Mountain Stamp Show, May 2017.

It describes a wide variety of fan mail sent to Hollywood stars by military members, usually during wartime. Various examples of censorship and mail handling are described.

The approach includes:

  1. Social history – even in times of war, people tried to maintain some sense of normalcy
  2. An interest in Hollywood stars was universal. Will see letters from soldiers, POWs, internees and civilians
  3. We learned much about obscure areas of military postal history.

This presentation was created by, and is the property of the authors, and is being supplied as a courtesy to the Military Postal History Society for educational and research purposes.
